I’ll Take Some Eggs In My Coffee, Please
Forget the traditional plate of eggs with a separate mug of coffee for breakfast. Why not combine them and reap the health benefits? Sound gross? Well, it kind of is… unless you try it and end up getting used to it.
A few months ago, I read an article linking numerous health benefits to the consumption of coffee blended with grass-fed butter and/or coconut oil. The research concluded that adding these healthy fats early in the day can help counteract the negative site effects of caffeine on its own, as well as enhance energy and mental clarity. You may think it’s disgusting, but I can almost guarantee that adding the excretion of a cow’s lactation (aka milk/dairy cream) is thirty seven times as unappealing.
Not only is this done for health reasons, but the rich, smooth, creamy taste of this brain-boosting blended morning tonic is quite satisfying. Think sweet, creamy, frothy, slightly savory, hint of coconut, coffee. Yum. Add a few crystals of coconut sugar and you’re golden.
Now, why the eggs? Well, eggs are high in micronutrients, whereas grass-fed butter and coconut oil don’t contain as many. They are simply great sources of healthy saturated fats. Despite containing the exact protein building blocks necessary for our health, egg yolks contain omega 3 fatty acids, which are essential for optimal brain function. When adding egg yolks to your coffee, depending on the amount of coffee you drink, I suggest whipping only one or two yolks into your coffee. Optional additions include honey, coconut sugar, or a little maple syrup, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Blended egg coffee serves as smart fuel before a workout, or simply a supplemental and delicious way to incorporate essential fats into your diet. Consuming this treat can help with concentration, focus, feelings of happiness and peace of mind, and creativity.
You won’t know until you try!
Here’s a recipe, adapted from Mark’s Daily Apple:
1 cup coffee
2 organic eggs
1 pinch sea salt
1 pinch coconut crystals
Beat the eggs first, and then add them to the coffee. Then add optional sweeteners, etc.
It’s time to think outside the box if you want your health to prosper! Cheers!
