5 Signs You Are Getting Aligned With Your Purpose

BEWARE: It’s not all unicorns and rainbows. Well, it is, but it may not feel like it as first…

If you’re second guessing your life purpose or perhaps feeling frustrated trying to figure it out, read on my friend…

First of all, what is this thing we call ‘purpose’? Some may refer to it as a ‘calling’ or a ‘mission’ in life. For years, I was a seeker. Yoga planted a seed of curiosity in my being. With greater awareness and mindfulness, I started to wonder who I really am, why I am here, and what the meaning of all of this is. Up until then, I felt as if I had been living according to someone else’s plan, whether it be society, my family, what other people do, etc. I wasn’t necessarily unhappy, but I definitely wasn’t fulfilled…

In addition to learning about yoga, meditation and the spiritual path, I was simultaneously exposed to the teachings of manifestation, entrepreneurship and the idea that we can create our own reality. I will admit I was initially a hardcore skeptic and had a lot of judgment. I assumed that people who would make such claims were either manipulating their audience, saying it because it sounded good, or come from some sort of wealthy background. Looking back, I’ve realized that most of my assumptions were subconscious expressions of resistance and fear on my end…

I didn’t believe I could have what other people had. And that was that for as long as I firmly believed it to be so…

Despite choosing to stay relatively small for many years and wish away the word ‘entrepreneur’, my yoga and meditation practice surprisingly carried a similar message. The message was: ‘You are not necessarily who you think you are. In fact, you are not your thoughts. You can re-birth yourself moment to moment’ Esoteric or not, this idea that my future does not have to be a product of my past and that I have full control to take a new action and believe a new thought and pave a new path were ringing so loud, I could no longer ignore it…

There were growing pains. I moved across the country with barely enough money to pay my first month’s rent. I had no jobs lined up in LA upon my move from NYC, but I had enough of wishing and hoping and believing I wasn’t capable of something more. Not even knowing what ‘more’ was going to look like! I was literally sick and tired of the same old track repeating. It’s like a nudge from the universe wouldn’t allow me to stay in my comfort zone any longer, and it was time to put the tools I had been gathering for years to use. It was NOT easy. Radical trust was instantly initiated, despite my mind’s frequent default into fear and anxiety…

‘What if I can’t afford my new life in LA?’

‘What will my future look like?’

‘Am I crazy to do this?’

‘I can’t. It’s too hard.’

Being inspired is one thing. Taking action is another…

When we take action despite fear and uncertainty, growth happens. It’s the only way for true personal spiritual growth and the chance to catch a glimpse of our purpose…

Keep in mind our purpose is not just one thing… our purpose is a constant… just as life is always in motion, our purpose is not some sort of distant static goal. That is a creation of the mind. Purpose is in constant evolution… like a river flowing. Having a goal is fine yet can be dangerous if we mistake that as the defining factor. If we base our peace of mind and happiness on attaining a particular goal, we may end up suffering more because we are placing our peace in the future. It’s also likely that the moment we achieve that goal we will likely want more, for that temporary bliss is just that: temporary. We are not able to relax into what is…

Being aligned with our true purpose means that, despite life’s inevitable movement, ups and downs, uncertainties and complexities, we carry an unwavering steadiness within. We are in a relaxed and trusting state of being…

Here are 5 signs you are getting aligned with your purpose:

  1. Things that once used to bring you happiness no longer do. You feel like you’ve outgrown your old routine yet haven’t necessarily settled into a new one…
  2. Your deepest desires are different than your parents or society’s expectations of you, and that desire is strong and often in your awareness despite attempting to silence or ignore it.
  3. Others often come to you seeking advice or guidance in a particular area of their lives. You are a trusted resource in your community.
  4. You have a desire to travel and see the world, despite your logical mind suggesting it is impractical.
  5. People think you’re crazy. Or perhaps you doubt yourself.

Keep trusting your path, my dear friend! There is a path only you can tread. Avoid comparing yourself to others. Your intuition is a key player in this renewed discovery of self and peace within. And what matters most is the moment you are in right now. Each moment demands receptivity and acceptance, otherwise we will likely resort to resistance and avoidance which only creates more separation…

Allow the moment to be the teacher. The moment over the mind…
